Primary Location:  Anacortes, WA

Schedule: M-F, 7am - 3pm

Reports to:  Operations Supervisor

Compensation: $44.88/hr starting wage, non-exempt

About This Role and You

The Chemtrade Anacortes facility is a spent sulfuric acid regeneration plant, providing hydrogen sulfide processing services for the local refinery by converting hydrogen sulfide into sulfuric acid.

The Operator is responsible for but not limited to performing general plant operator duties, working with tanks trucks, loading and unloading products, operating pumps, pipes, valves, and general plant upkeep and maintenance.

 

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in a plant environment performing similar duties
  • Ability to use computers effectively, Microsoft programs, maintenance management system, e-mail, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer’s literature, diagrams or schematics.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage pipeline transfers including pump start and stop for acid transfers
  • Monitor, adjust, and document process controls and equipment operations to maintain efficient, reliable operations of the facility
  • Physical capability of performing tasks at 75-degree ambient temperatures while wearing Protective Personal Protection such as Acid-Resistant approved PVC rain suit (topcoat, bottom pants, rubber boots, gloves and face shield) and Respirators.
  • Thoroughly understand the Plant Spill Prevention and Control Plan and be actively involved in other pollution abatement programs
  • Perform weekly / monthly safety inspections and plant housekeeping duties
  • Perform duties within parameters set by the Operations Supervisor, Operator A on shift, and/or instructions written in the operations log.
  • Monitor the plant process, accurately collect and analyse data, and report any deviations from normal to Operations Supervisor
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment by using good housekeeping practices.
  • Become familiar with ISO9001 and RC14001 requirements at the site.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor

 

Environmental, Health and Safety Responsibilities 

  • Become familiar with Chemtrade Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures.
  • Immediately report all ES&H incidents (injuries, near misses, releases).
  • Complete all required ES&H training in a timely fashion.
  • Follow all Chemtrade facility and corporate ES&H procedures and practices.
  • Attend and actively participate in facility ES&H meetings and forums that will drive employee involvement.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for ES&H program improvement.
  • Participate in job safety analysis activities.

 

Medical Requirement

 

Chemtrade is committed to the safety and health of its employees and the public. All employees are required to complete and pass their annually held medical assessments, including but not limited to the Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) and the ability to wear a respirator as a condition of employment

 

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Must be physically able to climb stairs and ladders (as required).
  • Must be “physically fit for duty”.
  • The normal schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm.
  • Must be able to work overtime, as needed.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with little advanced warning to fill other operator’s shifts as needed. For example, these other shifts could be 12 hours long and either between

 Must be able to perform under the following conditions:

  • Work in elevated places.
  • Work in outdoor environment in adverse weather conditions as required.
  • Work in noisy environments.
  • Work in areas that are dusty and have some odor from chemicals - etc.
  • Ability to work safely.
