Position: Project Engineer

Primary Location: Home based

Schedule: Full time - Monday to Friday – 40 hours work week. 

Reports to: Senior Manager - Maintenance Reliability 

Compensation: $103,000 - $114,000.83 per annum

The US base salary range for this position is $103,000 - $114,00 per annum + bonus + benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific salary ranges for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, benefits, pension contributions and/or additional incentives.

About this Role and About You 

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer with a focus on multiple downtime repair, high-volume low-cost capital projects, and the standardization of equipment. This role involves overseeing the development and execution of vital projects at all Waterchem facilities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in the chemical or industrial construction sector, coupled with excellent leadership and communication skills. This position requires 50-75% travel to manage multiple sites and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and compliant with all safety and regulatory standards.

 

Qualifications 

Knowledge 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical, Electrical Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing downtime repair, low-sustenance capital projects, and equipment standardization in the chemical or industrial sector.

Competencies

  • Skills: Strong understanding of repair processes, standardization practices, safety regulations, and operational efficiencies.

  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in project management software, including MS Project,Microsoft Office Suite and CMMS.

  • Travel: Willingness to travel extensively (50-75%) and work at various construction sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or CCM (Certified Construction Manager).
  • Experience specifically in downtime repair, maintenance projects, and equipment standardization in chemical processing or industrial facilities.
  • Knowledge of electrical national codes and standards in North America
  • Knowledge of API (American Petroleum Institute) standards and guidelines related to equipment and safety.
  • Familiarity with Lean principles and methodologies related to repair and standardization efficiency.

Responsibilities

 

Project Oversight

  • Lead and manage downtime repair projects and low-sustenance capital projects from initiation to completion, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
  • Develop detailed project plans aimed at minimizing downtime and maximizing operational efficiency, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation.
  • Monitor project progress closely, identifying and mitigating risks to ensure timely project delivery.

Site Management

  • Oversee repair and standardization activities at all Waterchem facilities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Conduct frequent site visits to assess work quality, safety protocols, and adherence to project specifications during repair and standardization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to facilitate smooth operations with a focus on efficiency and equipment standardization.

Standardization of Equipment

  • Support the development and implementation of standardized equipment and systems across Waterchem facilities to enhance reliability and performance.
  • Work with engineering and maintenance teams to identify equipment standardization opportunities that improve repair efficiency and reduce operational variance.
  • Ensure that equipment specifications align with industry best practices and company standards for maintenance and repair.

Budget and Resource Management

  • Prepare and manage project budgets specifically for downtime repairs and low-sustenance projects, ensuring cost control and financial accountability.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and subcontractors, ensuring favorable terms that support rapid project execution and standardization efforts.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop on-site project teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture focused on repair efficiency and equipment standardization.
  • Conduct regular meetings with project stakeholders to provide updates on repair activities, standardization initiatives, address concerns, and align on project objectives.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all repair and construction activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as internal company policies.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and manage necessary permits and inspections related to repair and standardization projects.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation related to repairs and standardization, including contracts, change orders, and progress reports.
  • Provide regular status updates to senior management, highlighting successes in repair, standardization, and addressing any challenges encountered during projects.

Risk Management

  • Identify potential risks associated with downtime and low-sustenance projects, as well as standardization initiatives, and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Implement robust safety programs and ensure that all personnel adhere to safety standards during repair and equipment standardization activities.
